NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Monday marks 22 years since nineteen terrorists hijacked four commercial planes and carried out the most devastating attacks on American soil since Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. On September 11, 2001, the Islamic group, al-Qaeda, deliberately crashed two planes into the upper floors of the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center complex and a third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Upon learning of the attacks, passengers on the fourth hijacked plane, Flight 93, fought the hijackers and thwarted the final attack.
